This 6’9” splitcane fly rod is built to the same taper as the twisted-tip model I developed together with René Beaumont of QQQ Fly Rods. Unlike its twisted counterpart, this rod has a traditional straight tip, giving it a slightly softer and more relaxed action.
The straight tip gives the rod a smooth, progressive feel while retaining the lively character of this taper. It offers a delicate and responsive presentation, with enough reserve to handle a variety of fishing situations.
As with the original model, the rod is fitted with hand-made bamboo ferrules, a beautifully figured olive wood reel seat and an ergonomic palm grip. The wraps are finished in purple Pearsall’s Gossamer silk, adding a distinctive touch while complementing the natural tones of the bamboo and olive wood.
Although based on the same taper, this version has its own character. The softer action makes it a pleasure to cast, with a smooth connection between the angler and the rod.
A classic interpretation of a unique taper, combining traditional splitcane craftsmanship with a subtle variation in action and character.
