I have built several of these 7’2” split cane fly rods with bamboo ferrules, fitted with snake guides and wrapped in Pearsall’s Gossamer silk. The wraps include colors such as claret and orange, finished with a fine claret tipping for a refined and classic look.
Taking a favorite rod on holiday is always special—but traveling with a two-piece 7’2” rod can be less than ideal, especially by plane. Since I craft my own bamboo ferrules, I decided: why not make my favorite #5 as a three-piece?
The result is a practical travel version of this taper, complete with a handmade rod case just 80 cm in length—perfectly sized to fit in a suitcase. Here are some examples of the three-piece split cane rods I have built, ready to accompany me on new adventures.
